Chiller Cooling Design

Typically, a chiller system supplies chilled water to a chilled water demand source. It cools the chilled water by heat exchange between the refrigerant circulating in the refrigeration system and the chilled water circulating between the chilled water demand source and the refrigeration system. These chiller systems are large-capacity units and can be installed in large-scale facilities.

Air-cooled chiller Water-cooled chiller
Air-cooled, low initial cost, suitable for small cooling systems. Cooled by water, it has a large capacity and high efficiency, making it suitable for large buildings or large-scale refrigeration systems.

| Difference Between Air-Cooled and Water-Cooled Chillers

  • Different Cooling Media
  • Heat Transfer Rate: Air-cooled Chillers are Slower / Water-cooled Chillers are Faster
  • Maintenance: Air-cooled Chillers are Easier
  • Noise: Air-cooled Chillers are Louder
  • Energy Efficiency: Water-cooled Chillers are Higher
