Mangoes have a much shorter shelf life than other fruits. Typically, mangoes can be stored for only three to four weeks under controlled temperatures of 8 to 14°C, depending on the variety.

The combination of modified atmospheric packaging and 1-MCP application has been shown to have a positive effect on extending shelf life and improving quality. However, warehouses operating under ultra-low oxygen (ULO) principles achieve even longer shelf life. Furthermore, these advanced technologies eliminate the need for polyethylene MAP bags, allowing for a shelf life of up to six to seven weeks.

As a very delicate fruit, the cold chain for mangoes must be uninterrupted from harvest to market.
